Planet of Exile: a critique of xenophobia, fear of the other. I think the most interesting part of this story is how both species on this planet refer to themselves as “men” or “human”. The barbarian Gaals are even referred to as more than beasts, men of themselves. It brings into question what it means to be human.

Rocannon’s World: a quick fantasy-style read, very Tolkien-esque. Unlike Le Guin’s other novels, this one didn’t feel like it had a super strong moral which was fine with me. Her writing style was light and entertaining, the characters were captivating and relatable, and I really enjoyed the read.
