Things are getting interesting. The competition has begun, the players have been laid out by the author. 4 of them are worthy, the 5th is a bee-otch.

WWII is on and the food rationing in England is very real. A radio program for tips on cooking within the rations is hosted by a man who doesn’t cook. There is to be a competition to find a female to host the show. Each chapter is introducing the characters who, I assume, are going to compete for the position.
