2016 October reads book 2!

I think this is supposed to have some fantasy elements. I'm kinda scared about that.....and not in a good way.

An okay story. I liked how we find out where October Boy comes from. But the story jumped around too much. And I still wonder about the town since it didn't seem like it was this well spring of opportunity. Saying the town does things in order to stay prosperous seemed far fetched.

“My dad asked them if they were from the Harvester’s Guild. I remember that. Ricks said, ‘Well, we’re not exactly from the 4-H.’ Then he said they were taking me with them to pay my father’s debt to the town. I remember what he said: ‘Blood will square the deal.’

This story is weird. There's no explanation at all for The October Boy or the rules. And I hate how the story is flowing. The writer decided to make the set up be that you are a part of the story and it doesn't work very well. The word licorice road has been said about a dozen times.

Lucky me that this book counts for a Halloween bingo square as well as September Horror Aficionado group read. I plan on reading both books selected for this months group read so I can get back on track and meet my reading goal.

I plan on reading this for the "Set on Halloween" square.

Took a break from reading in general but trying to get back on the bandwagon now. This is a fun and well-written story so far!

Partridge really tryna push that "town summons pagan god for good harvest" trope home. It hasn't grabbed me yet, but it's getting there.

What amazing writing - and a really unique storytelling technique. I'm impressed and enthralled on several different levels at once.

Let's see how much I can get through before I fall asleep. Would have been further by now but this concussion is kicking my ass and I slept most of the day.

And behind them the sky is as red as the devil's own furnace, banked tight against a scorched penny of a moon. The Caddy travels on as that penny melts in the night. The flames travel, too. But they can't catch Pete McCormick. He's much too fast. He's already gone ...

Uhm, no.

It's like staring up at Santa Claus, or the goddamn Easter Bunny...but only if Santa was the kind of guy who'd strangle you with your own stocking, and only if the Easter Bunny was the kind of rabbit who'd stomp you dead and peel your cracked skullcap like a hardboiled egg.

Random purchase from the rack at the Dollar Store. Glad I picked it up, I'm really enjoying the writing style.

Holy crap. Picked this one up on the way to the tub and totally got swept up in it. Read the first 73 pages in one breathless stretch. Genius!
