About halfway through the plot was pretty unbelievable. And why should I care?

Because I like the TV genre of Nordic Noir, I thought I’d try a book version.

Oh my gods, I love this so much already! The main character has a best friend named Sara and my best friends named Sarah. And she just met this mysterious man in Skálar named Thór. Ooff he seems so nice. I love him already.

i’m really liking this so far. the premise is what intrigued me about this one and it’s pretty fast paced. it’s also perfect to read in cold weather!

Pour le moment l’histoire du changement de vie de Una pour un village au bout du monde est fluide et intéressante. On a en parallèle un meurtre dont on ne sait quasi rien.

Couldn’t finish it

Nope. I cannot finish it. It is slow and boring. The fact that the character is so passive is just too frustrating and somewhat unbelievable. The time line drives me nuts too- one moment she’s meeting a parent for the first time at the start of school term and the next day she preparing for the Christmas pageant. Nothing is building any character in the book as I slowly progress.

Very atmospheric and creepy, a little like “We Have Always Lived In The Castle.”

Excellent so far. Very creepy modern gothic horror story it seems.

So far so good. I totally get why people don’t like it; it’s incredibly different to his usual stories, but I like it. Feels like modern gothic horror more than crime. Excellent.

Another sad and insular young woman going to a severe outpost of only 10 living people at great distance from anything. Over an Artic winter. Sounds fun, huh? I'll stick with it awhile anyway.

Just getting into it. I have had mixed experiences with his work so far...

God this book is terrible. It’s flat, it’s dull, there’s no actual story. It’s just a whiny little 30 year old bitch baby with zero personality and a drinking problem.

I don’t know how this book was published but it’s fucking awful.

Jesus fucking Christ, Una, no one owes you an explanation about ANYTHING.

I just did something I rarely do. Searched in the kindle for mentions of Thòr to make sure nothing happened to him. I legit don’t care about Una at all. I only care about Thòr, his past, and some random ass murder caught in between.

Just over half-way of the novel and honestly… I think Ragnar’s writing keeps getting progressively worse. His Ari novels, as much as I could stand Ari, were really well written.
His Hulda books, not so much.
But this one… it’s sterile. It does have a creepy undertone but I have zero feelings invested with the MC. I don’t care what happens to her. I care more about Thòr than I do her.
