Something happens, a huge revelation that an enemy is related to either xie lian or someone close to xie lian and they solve the case while hua cheng tags along. And still no backstory for him. The first 20% of this book exemplifies what I do not like about light novels. In about 20 or so pages, we are treated to an information dump about basically every event involving the characters so far. We are told of the histories and whereabouts of Feng Xin, Ling Wen, Qi Rong, Lan Chang, blah blah blah… only to end up (so far) with Xie Lian not taking any action. As if the reader simply needs to be informed.
