Constant loses all his money trying to evade his future. He uses the photo of the sirens in a cigarette advert. He sends Beatrice cruel letters. Rumsfoord tells her she will come to love him deeply. Nice doggy.

SIRENS. Malachi Constant is invited to the estate of Winston Niles Rumfoord who has been materialising with his dog like spirits once every 59 days as a result of flying his spaceship into a chrono-synclastic infundibulum. Rumfoord tells Constant about how he is to be bred on Mars with Rumfoord’s wife, and about the sirens. Constant sees a photo of them and suddenly realises why.

Quite a sad scene in the bookshop in New York where Billy picks up a Kilgore Trout novel about two Earthlings in a zoo on another planet. Then he sees a magazine with the headline: ‘What really became of Montana Wildhack?’ She drowned apparently.

The Febs (Four-Eyed Bastards) sing for Billy and Valencia at their anniversary party. It pulls Billy apart in side and he remembers that the guards who came out of the slaughterhouse with him resembled a barbershop quartet. So long forever old fellows and pals. He recounts this to Montana Wildhack on Tralfamadore.
