Um idk I like the word choices, obv gonna be appropriate for its time (1906). Uh honestly feeling a little too similar to another book the author wrote… I lit read this bc I saw it as a rec from same author and honestly LOVE the old ‘cowboy’ vibes buttttt it’s not givinggggg…

“You and me, we can do anythin’.”

“I reckon you’re right. We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, I suppose.”

“No we ain’t, long as we’re together.”

“All right. I reckon I’ll set up house with you here, Mr. Downing, s’long as you promise to love me and spank me and tie me up now an’ then, even if we’re plumb tired from all the work we gotta do.”

I couldn’t hide the grin that broke out on my face as I swung up on Dixie’s back. “Good. ’Cause I got lots of rope and lots of ideas.”

“I imagine there are probably more people like you & Oscar than most folks suppose. But they’re living as brothers, or sisters, or cousins, or good friends, ... going into town every day like everyone else, working & contributing to the society that hates them. But inside the walls of their own homes, they’re loving each other & giving each other as much pleasure as they can, in order to make up for that.”

I slapped him on the ass like t’was my new job & he squeaked. “Do I need to give you another one” “You sure know how to treat a boy.” I blinked then laughed. He was so funny, this whole situation was ridiculous. “This really what you like, Oscar? Bein’ o’er my knee & takin’ a spankin’?” He blushed again. “Do you even gotta ask? I’ll be such a good boy, Mr. Downing, such a”—he left off with a gasp, rocking against me, fucking my leg & breathing hard, & t’was only a matter of time—“good…good…boy!”

“You like that? You like it when I call you a brat, Oscar? I oughta haul you across my knee & give you a hidin’ you won’t forget.” My breath came in harsh little pants, & Oscar gaped at me like he’d discovered Shangri-la, & I didn’t know what was happening. I couldn’t keep up. But Oscar seemed to, because he grinned & nodded and said, “Yeah, I think that would do me good.”

He picked up the mug and brought it to his lips, closing his eyes and gulping the drink down in long, sensuous swallows.
