This is such a gloriously ridiculous story!
Abnett deserves an award for making Nick Kyme's Feat of Iron and Stephen King's The Dark Tower appear subtle.
This really does have big Wizard and Glass energy, at least for the parts in the present of the narrative, which is a confusing thing to talk about when referencing two stories whose present jumps between various times and places...

I totally get it if the Perpetuals storyline isn't everyone's favourite thing with its singing to help Santa's Sleigh make it out of Central Park and all it's oddly spelled classical references that might read as smug, but come across as merrily self-satisfied to me, and brings in a very different element of tragedy and whimsy that I adore, as it deepens the mythological nature of the 31st Millennium.

Abnett is having a lot of fun with this one. I can picture the mischievous grin as he just lets loose with Old Terran Hellenistic myth references, in case you didn't pick it up in Know No Fear.
I did not remember that made my ears prick up was there mention of where Jason & co sailed to...
The descriptions of the 'Trumpeters' are wonderful, as is Seeking to tie them to the mast of the myth. It absolutely tracks!

"All five of them – two Imperial Army troopers, a labourer, a girl, and a servitor"
Ah, yes. The five genders.
I wish that so many Black Library authors weren't such clueless fething lads, lads, lads because there are some parts of this series much worse than this that I *can't wait* to get to
The above isn't the worst, but it's indicative of the male focus of the series, even when there's no weak Astartes excuse
