‘So, “posh” is an abbreviation for “Portside Onward Starboard Homeward”. When the Brits used to travel to India by ship, this formula told them which side of the ship to book their cabins, so they could avoid the sun. They’d choose portside cabins for their onward journey to India, and starboard on the way back home.
