My last note here

I’m putting this book on my utter shit shelf

Usually I throw shit books on there bc the writing is just shit.

But this book wasn’t entirely shit like most.

Still shit though.

Main reason it deserves a spot on there is bc I’m fucking tired of shit rereads.
And this was utterly shit overall.

Ugh.

Side note

Maybe I was wrong about one thing though…

I vaguely recall really loving a diff book by this author called “fierce radiance”

So maybe I’ll reread that…

Ugh.

This is the worst reading slump ever.

I kind of feel bad for the models in these cover photos for all of this authors’ books.

Not only are they really shitty looking, the contents match it too.

I just skimmed the blurb for the rest do this series,
Major yawn.

Also reminded me how I found myself often audibly sighing and groaning in disgust and frustration whilst reading this shit book.

What a fucking disappointment

I had a vague impression of this author being a favorite of mine all those years ago

But now I very highly doubt I’ll ever read any of this shit authors works again.

This is yet another reread fail.
As in, a reread that made me seriously question my younger self who thought this was a good read.

This was utter trash.

And every time I see that photo cover, it’s like a little puddle of puke that’s involuntarily regurgitated in the back of my throat. It’s that fucking hideous.

I started chapter page skimming around chapter fifteen I think

And THANK GODS I did.

I can’t even rn. I don’t have the energy to continue ranting about how shit this reread was.

Already, I can almost feel my brain trying to actively wipe this experience from my memory.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned yet, the clues and hints to this entire story so far-not being real. Or reality.

I’m certain of it.

Although I’m not sure if that plot twist will finally be revealed at the end of this book or not.

This is basically smut
And I’m loathed to put this on that shelf

Bc it’s not even good smut

I feel as dry as a desert reading this so I’ve taken to skipping it altogether when it comes up
Which happens way too fucking often
They’re fucking each other every other page it seems

The grovel was meh

The punishment for the woudk be rapists were meh

Everything happened so quickly

Had to note the fmc tells the mmcs that she’s an “accomplished and well educated woman who won’t take shit from anyone”
And to talk to her when “they’re tired of dealing with girls and want a real woman”

Cringe af

ESP the next few pages they’re in the middle of strip poker and she refers to one of them as “kiddo”

I fucking hate any mention ot references to characters being childish

ick.

Appearances of every character keeps being brought up, as well as that annoying af trope of “fmcs’ looks being disparaged and the mmcs immediately interjecting with positive appraisals and declarations of how beautiful she is and how stupid anyone who’s judged her before don’t know the meaning of the word beautiful” etc or whatever

It’s repetitive and tiresome to read

It also makes me care even less

It’s just a steady-decline at this point

From experience, I doubt the writing will improve by the end of this book, let alone the series.

The intimate scenes were just not sexy at all to me.
The dialogue is still shitty the majority of the time.

Figures… I was mentally making a note for remember to make a note here about how … not bad, this writing is. Better than I expected of a reread, and a book this “old”

I kept reading and the dialogue kept getting worse

While I’ve certainly read worse writing, this book has been kind of 50-50 in terms of okay writing-shit wrifing

Mainly the cringe dialogue that’s hard to believe

Honestly I’ll prob dnf if the writing is shit

Or just pause and read something else out of boredom

I’m currently not really in the mood for this kind of story actually..

Frankly, I’m bored af
I’m only still reading bc this is a reread and chapter one just ended-where I believe…the fmc was drugged and went to sleep under the machine for a “few hours”…and if I recall correctly, the ending of this book/series has the plot twist of the trope “it was all a dream” kind of scenario

Why does Ford call her “Kiddo”?

Well out with the first choice the second choice is a maybe... the third choice seems the best choice so far. I’m ok with the sleeping arrangements on the first ship but dislike the crew. The second ship has an ok crew but I dislike how presumptuous the sleeping arrangement is that or it Seems the female crew is second class. The crew on the third ship seems great & I’m ok with the sleeping arrangements

Hoping this book is as entertaining as the first & only book I've ever read by this author. Here goes... starting it today... BTW why are all the covers for this author's books all seem like a low-budget effort with hideous results? Am I being overly critical??

I read Acquainted with the night by this author yrs ago. I recall the cover being equally as hideous. I went back to see how I liked it & seems the story was a worthwhile read. In fact, I wrote it a proper review, which I rarely make an effort to do. TBH I usually rate it maybe write a few sentences &/or any pet peeves or warnings I think other readers would appreciate knowing prior to committing to the book.
