This series is proving to be quite good.

something about the mother and girlfriend doesn’t sit right with me. so so so good, i relate to cross way too much :/

For Christ sake, Greek is not a race. A writer should know that! Cross might have been prejudiced or plain stupid or inattentive but racist? No!

I wondered if the second book in this series would be any less stereotypical in its depiction of an autistic protagonist. Nope.
And amazingly the writing has gotten even worse!

So far, its not as gripping as the first one, and the author has broken the fourth wall, to explain (to younger readers) what tipex is. I read this part aloud to the 15yo who asked "Who doesn't know what tipex is?" We discussed how it isn't needed as much now PCs/laptops have replaced typewriters and her response was "we still use pens." Started an interesting conversation, interrupted my reading time though.
