This book is so badly written but in a way that is extremely satisfying to my fried dopamine receptors

I can't fathom why Xiuying and Qieluo have such a strong opinion on her family situation and I can't fathom why that's relevant enough to take up 10 pages of space when neither of those characters were given any depth or personality outside of "mean girl" and "nice girl". Why must I care about the opinions of these archetypes
