Lucia I love you! What a good read SO happy Persephone brought this back to life through publishing, Alfred Hitchcock was right to make it one of his fave suspense! Very 1940s thriller noir vibes and you just fall in love with the protagonist, the emotions and suspense of a middle aged housewife navigating through war times and challenging the boundaries of how her family and society portray her role…loved!

Interesting so far. Very atmospheric about the home front during WW II and the pressure on a woman dealing with even more stress than usual. Descriptions excellent — I see it clearly.
