Y’all, the character man doesn’t understand, or at least, didn’t really seem into Socialism when it was helping people. But when Socialism is helping nature, he’s down with it and spitting on some rich dude. It’s the cognitive dissonance for me.

I’m trying so hard to not judge this book, but this author is not making it easy. They are now calling protesters “rioters.” I read this book because I wanted an urban fantasy. I did not want, nor request, a bullshit liberal story that doesn’t even understand how capitalism, communism, or Socialism works. The capitalist propaganda is real.

This idea that people will be lazy is so FUCKED. 1. Who cares? Like why do you care? 2. That wouldn’t be everyone. Some lady may find the cure for cancer. 3. Why does everyone have to work? Slavery got folks in a chokehold.

Yoooooo this book, I’m trying to not be mean but y’all wtf is this:
“Still, Matt didn’t get [socialism] since he’d also seen the bad side. Someone down the block clearly didn’t want to work, and Matt had overheard her bitch and moan about having to attend a course on how to write good job applications in order to receive benefits.”
The bad side is ONE person doesn’t want to work?!?! Ok 🥴🥴🥴

There is something kind of odd about the writing style here but I can't quite put my finger on it. The pace is quite slow, but I like the characters and the setting enough that I don't mind it.

I feel like I should be vaguely annoyed about the digression into capitalism vs socialism but it was surprisingly interesting, if a little out of place.
