Another day, another Warhammer book.

The battle just wrapped up and next is the aftermath

The first Warhammer book with Traitor Space Marines as point of view characters. In a way they are kind of depressing. Ancient warriors who have been fighting nonstop for thousands of years. The glory and honor they once sought has been replaced by exhaustion. They only keep going because there is no other way.

I was not aware Titans were going to be playing a role within the book. Yeah to the giant death meks

Not that far into the book and already there are four different point of view characters with only one of them returning from the first book. Based on the cover there will be at least two more, but there could very well be even more. Just how many of them will remain point of view characters is unknown at the moment.

Back on this; really picked up pace from where I last got up to! Intro felt really slow

Any other universe a victory this hollow would be deeply unsatisfying. In Warhammer it's pretty standard

Anywhere other than 40k this would be the most pyhrric of victories.
40k it's just your average Tuesday

Well that's an "Oh...crap..." moment if ever I've read one

40k: where even the super-soldiers can fail miserably and watch their allies die

To be fair the macro-cathedrum feels a suitably epic location to stage the final battle

There is definitely a reckoning coming, I can't tell what kind of reckoning though

Wow, this is going pretty spectacularly wrong for Imperial forces

...that seems like...really bad news

This definitely has a "Very few of these people are making it to the end of this alive" feeling. But then that's true of MOST 40k stories lol

That was a brilliant "Victory from defeat" moment...there's no way it's going to last though

Avenging Son: Ridiculously epic space battle

Gate of Bones: Brutal close-quarters melee fighting.

Not that I'm complaining, I like the variety

That was...quite violent. Admittedly it's an enhanced super-soldier versus basically cannon fodder, that was never going to end well for the cannon fodder

This is squaring up to be a big battle, and I'm not sure who's going to win

I love that the villains are no more a unified force than the heroes are

There's no good news from this turn of events, at least none that I can see

Much as I love the superhumans in these stories it's always nice to take a break for a more human angle

Yeah...a "nice" reminder the good guys can be quite dark in this

If you weren't familiar with 40k and were reading this the significance of the Custodes arriving would be a little lost on you

I want to say Custodians to the rescue, but the Imperials are still outnumbered by a LOT

Being 40k I can definitely see this plan going very wrong

Nothing about that ending seems good news for...pretty much anyone
