It's unbelievable how much abuse was taking place in this asylum, and to understand that those behaviours were the norm for mental asylums in the 19th century is to understand that women truly had no freedom. Many patients were admitted solely for having their own thoughts and beliefs, opposite from their husbands'. It truly scares me that some people will never grasp the severity of oppression against women.
