This is entertaining but is to savoured in small doses. Considering its size, it is going to be with me for quite some time.

pg 49: "They command courage and strength in wars, and let themselves be conquered by lust and avarice. They are, in brief, as disordered in their minds as Theristes was in his body."

…and so that old aphorism of Aristotle may be verified, ‘Nullum magnum ingenium sine mixtura dementiæ,’ no excellent wit without a mixture of madness.

This may well be a challenge to listen to on my bike, the way I usually consume audio books, as the language is too dated and the turns of phrase too intricate for the mind (at least mine) not to get distracted by the slightest traffic mishap or random thought. I managed to get through the introduction alright, but once I got to the book proper I had to restart several times. Well, maybe it's more of a shower book.
