Miles, the love of her life was on a trip. She loved Miles but his addiction came between them. The drugs turned him into someone else. Someone she didn’t want to know. Someone foreign to her.

She had this lingering guilt about her relationship with her daughter. One that I acknowledge and respect. I can see her being protective of her daughter in her actions. I also understand how her daughter would want her around, present and all to herself. Like most children none of us want to share our parents. Circumstances sometimes makes this situation one that you can't escape.

chapter nine intro secretarial work, to modeling which led her to acting, something God ordained for her. Sometimes you have to give up what is secure for what is meant for you. Those choices are not easy.

the old ways valued reputation above all. Marriage but not a desired one. That's tough and super old fashioned. I wonder how many lives where impacted by the things we uphold for the sake of others.

Chapter 4 Mom finally does what needed to be done. A sad but necessary moment for the family. Sad that her mother had to be strong and deal with so much pain

Everyone has their own scars. People, especially children can be cruel. being black is an experience like no other. People have biases built on colorism, textureism and classism . She doesn't shy away from explaining her experiences and traumas. She does it in a way so carefully crafted. I really admire her art of storytelling or in this case truth telling.
