Status Updates From Black Metal Rainbows

Really tempting my fate by reading the pages with explicit photographic nudity on them while, at work. Nothing an errantly-lain notebook can't censor!
The section about the queer sex worker finding their community was really nice until it ended with "also i am obsessed with a dead metal singer and feel I speak with him beyond the grave and am in love with him" but y'know. I don't get it but it's cool with me.

kinda sucks how many of the people doing anti-nazi black metal are also people going "all the left does is infighting and purity politics." Glad for Kim Kelly's section on anarchist black metal that feels like a deeply felt group of people going "it is important for us to spread THIS message as an act against fascism" thank you Kim

Like there's an essay by a guy who's constantly cited as "oh his project is so important and in-your-face about pushing queerness in black metal!!!!" and he's like "yeah but wouldn't pushing it too hard make it more of a space for the homosexual fascist?" I dunno, maybe if you make it a space for them, but isn't part of the idea that you.... wouldn't?

I dunno, parts of this book feel like it's trying to undercut its own thing? Like it blows the doors off going "WE ARE BLACK METAL RAINBOW WE ARE HERE TO QUEER THE BLACK METAL SCENE but like, isn't the black metal scene, kinda queer already? Aren't we doing it a disservice by suggesting we're creating something that already exists?" i dunno homie you WROTE & CHOSE THE ESSAYS IN THE BOOK!

The opening essay attempting a kind of "it's called black metal but it's not not the absence of color, it's a combination of ALL colors!" and then breaking down how like "pink is represented by the women and the gays, red is represented by the socialists but also unfortunately the nazis! Green is the etc" which is maybe too cute by half. Introducing me to black metal scholarly writing I didn't know before though!
