Status Updates From Tastes Like War

The entire time reading this book, I've been asking, "What's the point of this novel...? What is the author trying to get across....?" But when it hit a certain point in the mother's story I just thought "Why did this author write a book about her mom? Well, because she deserved one. Damn."

I'm not sure about this one so far...I want to know the story, but the way it's written is kind of hard to follow for some reason. Not as one consecutive story but a lot of jumping around. Maybe I need to pay more attention, I am listening while working lol.
