IM SPEECHLESS

I’ve only read the prologue but the dynamic between Mark and James immediately made me think of Theo and Boris in Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch. I’ve heard mixed things about this book but we’ll see.

Yes I too would climb 500 steps to the top of a tower with my recently re-injured leg which has attempted but failed to be symbolic this whole time & then on the verge of passing out bump into my ex-girlfriend who !! is also in Italy and at the top of this tower and then I simply walk back down to the bottom and then grab a beer with her and her new boyfriend because that is just soooo life Naomi

I was mostly drawn to the all living together in a quirky old house element, which is foregrounded in descriptions of this book, but doesn’t quite feature as I was hoping. I get the overwhelming impression that Alderman, herself an alum of Oxford, absolutely hated it there, a sentiment almost shared by the protagonist, who is torn between finding it all terribly seductive, or utterly cold and brutal.
