i like it so far, it’s quiet and intriguing. i’m starting to realize that the speaker and mieko are quite similar. both outcast, both don’t enjoy much, both are kinda waiting for things to be over. speaker is french i believe? visits her grandparents and she speaks japanese but i think the grand parents speak korean. still leaning the ins and outs of this book

Singapore vibes.

Very light read, I’m notice that I keep waiting for ‘something’ to happen. I would’ve liked more background stories of his grandmother with some history. For me, it’s hard to focus on reading because it’s a slice of life story and I’m impatient.

A mellow start

If it weren't for work, I will not put this book down. It's so good

early days but fear this may be a snoozefest

So far I’m really enjoying it. Her writing is straightforward yet artful and even a little poetic. It’s also interesting to me because it carries themes of language and identity and language of oppression.

I wish I’d have gotten more of a chance to read books in this narrative style because it really would’ve influenced my script for my thesis for the better. But oh well we I can always go back and edit 🥲🥲

Slightly melancholic and unafraid to be real, I love the vibe from this novella.

I couldn’t point to why but I am really enjoying this.

Such a simple story on the surface but I can already see the layers. I’m really enjoying it.

I’m not really connecting with this one as much as I did with Winter in Sokcho, but it’s still decent! Luckily it’s a quick read.
