“Lincoln seems to go through this a lot—getting picked up against his will.” Lincoln was having a short person experience at 6’4”. A great uniter indeed!

Another great story about the history of our nation that I did not know about. The abolition of slavery in America was an incredibly immense social issue that was tremendously divisive. Drove people to do unthinkable things. This was a truly 5 star read.

This book will never end. The assassination plot was like 17 pages. I don't need to know about Ft. Sumpter. My parents used to drag me to every National Battlefield for "battle walks" in the blistering Southern summer sun. My former boss worships Henry Clay. I know about the Civil War.

This book is pointless and I hate it, but because of who I am as a human, I will continue to slog through

you'd think that someone with a beloved copy of "Senate Traditions" would have known that a senator was caned on the Senate floor by a member of the House in 1856. But I did not know that until I was today years old. Perhaps the political decorum hasn't devolved as much as we'd think.

I am not enjoying the structure of the book and the use of present tense.
Being jerked from short chapter to short chapter breaks the narrative too much. It is interesting learning about Pinkerton and the detective agency and the various other subplots but it is like watching a ping pong match. If this were a television program I would have quit watching long ago perhaps thinking I would like the book more.

The chapters go back and forth in time which I don't necessarily appreciate but it is written really well.

An incredible look at a time in history I never knew existed but altered the path of our country forever. I have a reason to now say, “Lincoln is my favorite President.”

Outstanding! Well researched and concisely written details on the secret plot to kill Lincoln prior to his inauguration. It also provides insight on Lincoln’s thought process and activities during a tumultuous time in history. The narrator Scott Brick is outstanding.
