Status Updates From Georgiana: Duchess of Devon...

CHAPTER 19 END & PART 3 END /// Okay, but there are seriously large chapters and seriously short ones. Nothing really happened in this chapter except that Georgiana Jr has come out and is of marriage age and Bess is still waiting for Duke of Richmond to propose to her.

CHAPTER 18 END /// Nothing new happened since the last update except that we are hinted that Bess and the Duke of Richmond are to marry.

Wherein Georgiana gets an eye infection that nearly kills her and leaves her brain damaged (or traumatized; hard to tell). Bess becomes a widow, gains financial independence, and gets her sons back. Bess's lover becomes a widower. And all this in a single page. Whatever shall happen next?

CHAPTER 17 END /// Georgiana is now a fully satisfied housewife and science woman who totally isn't dabbling in politics at all no not even a little bit and certainly not that thing which you just saw and swore would be dabbling except it isn't because she said it wasn't. Earl Grey has married and Georgiana has grieved the end of that love affair. The Prince has a commitment problem. And Harriet is healthy. For now.

CHAPTER 16 END /// Okay, now for real Marie Antionette lost her head. Harriet has a fancy title because her father in law died. The Duke of Devonshire has expelled and then recalled his women. Georgiana birthed Earl Grey a daughter whose last name is somehow both significant and insignificant but I couldn't follow it. And apparently France decade war on England and is winning?

CHAPTER 15 END /// Well now, Georgiana is pregnant by her lover, The Duke doesn't want to be publicly known as a cuckhold so has sent her abroad to birth the baby in secret and give it up for adoption. Her lover is furious that he's not going to be able to father his own child (could he not adopt the child?). Harriet's health is in decline. And Georgiana had to break up with Grey.

CHAPTER 14 END /// You know, some of these chapters seem very long and then others seem quite short. In this one, Marie Antionette loses her head but the Devonshires gain an heir. I'm surprised at the celebration at birth when child mortality is so high even among the aristocracy ... they seem to be counting their chickens before their is prudent.

CHAPTER 13 END & PART 2 END /// It is nice to see Georgiana's work drawing to a close even as she wasn't yet ready to accept retirement. I think she might enjoy having a bit more time to work on breaking her gambling addiction. One hopes, anyway.

That poor Queen had to stand up for 10 hours by a window. I mean, yeah it sucks to be in the audience, but also it sucks to be the Queen. You couldn't pay me enough!

Oh? Forty-Five whole towns in the whole of the UK sent letters of appreciation to Pitt. That's almost enough to make up the state of Rhode Island. I'm not as impressed with this fact as the author of this book has been.

Georgiana has a political rival, another woman of equal skill supporting the opposing party. Oh, now things are interesting.

I have done zero research whatsoever, but I suspect syphilis. Am I right?
