Nobel lecture on Conrad was compelling as was the essay on social alienation (world too much with us) and the novel.

Enjoyed his essay on the future of the novel a lot. Interesting ideas about the importance of artists using the novel to "order" the world. His comments on Roth's work were good but somewhat familiar to me (may have read them somewhere before).
