This is the classic boy adventurer, Twain’s Tom Sayer, the bare foot boy of poetry, Pipkin, the hero of Bradbury’s “the Halloween Tree” as well as his Will Holloway and Jack Nightshade of “Something Wicked This Way Comes.” Arrogance, bravery, curiosity and selflessness.

What an excellent way to introduce us into the land of king author. It is interesting that the outer narrator reads a passage after meeting the stranger that is probably one of the funniest in the original Arthurian cycles,. However of course it is told straight and yet it works as a kick off story that we are geared into actually be at Camelot!
