I had the relationships wrong. Harlan is actually the sheriff, not part of the family with Paul or Rick. Paul is the youngest son of the clan. He was too young to remember the death of Dale Junior. Who’s that has impacted the entire family in the community. After many years missing, the family has finally put up a monument for Dale Junior. Rick is married to Pam. Their marriage is troubled, and she tries to leave.

Sheriff Harley Reddick is out patrolling at night, thinking about the death of his little brother at the hands of a war veteran, when he comes to his old home place and finds his little brother Paul parking with a young girl.
