I don’t mind how Weir characterizes Katheryn and older and sexual, however I do mind that she is depicted as disloyal and flighty.

Mary Lascalles is hated by Katheryn despite being the only person who is honest to her.

I just realized I’m starting this on National Rose day/National Ballet day.

Henry Manox is incorrectly introduced when Katheryn is 15 so as to make the relationship consensual. :^/

Being a daughter in anyway related to the powerful Howard family is a very risky proposition, if the much savvier Anne could not maneuver the shark-infested political waters of the Tudor court, what hope had the beautiful but clueless Katheryn?

It certainly paints a different (but not too different) picture of Katherine Howard.

So far out of the "Six Tudor Queens" this is the worst.

It makes me cringe for some reason...she 19 and he 40 something and already obese. Ewe..just Ewe

Damn it's good to be back.

i actually really like katheryn as a character. she is by no means profoundly clever, but neither is she silly and naive. she is simply a pretty young woman, fairly sensible (although probably neglected as a young girl too much) who is simply enjoying dancing, singing and making music, and has grown as a person since the beginning of the book.

So far so good.

I know I’m not going to like this. I know this book has many issues and I need to read it in order to use my voice to bring attention to them.

I think I have read too many 4 or 5 star books re this Tudor period- and even before and after Elizabeth's reign. So this minutia detail for the short life of Katheryn Howard is not going to ring my bell as it so clearly has for others. But I will plow ahead. Knowing numerous side families and lines does help somewhat for a "new" exposure.

Why does the author keep insisting on making her leads pregnant when they weren't? Jane Seymour had three, Anne of Cleves had two and now Katherine Howard has had 1.5 (?). Why are you so obsessed with fertility?

Henry VIII concerned about a woman's orgasm? Hmmmm

I don't know why they felt the need to have him excuse it away. Just have him admit to the rape and have her forgive him like you did with Anne Boleyn and her brother in the second book -_-

Weir is taking some heat in the reviews of this one. But really, what was there to work with? A young, naive (in what matters) and seemingly unintelligent girl that was let down by an inattentive father and greedy guardians/“friends”. She didn’t stand a chance. The fiction aspect of this one suffers. Weir doesn’t write sexual situations well. And that is what this girl was about. Sad story all around. 2.5/5
