O livro começa com muitos acontecimentos, o prefácio achei um pouquinho confuso mas nada que atrapalhe. E o primeiro capítulo já conhecemos várias personagens, como Sorelli, Giry, Gabriel, Jemmes e sua mãe que dá uma notícia terrível... logo de cara Joseph Buquet é encontrado enforcado
