This reminds me of Russian literature somehow

I am determined to finish this before I go to Lourdes next month, but it’s kind of like reading an opera in book form…

Picking back up again but starting over as it’s been a while.

Quanto mais eu leio esse livro mais eu quero ler outro do mesmo assunto mas ESCRITO POR UM CATÓLICO.

Esse livro eh muito ruim. Tb, foi escrito por uma pessoa que nao é catolica. Nao sei pq a MBC publicou justamente essa obra sobre N Sra de Lourdes.

A masterful novelist as well as biographer, Werfel presents Bernadette’s story in such an engaging manner!

Super engaging read so far- can’t put it down!

Bernadette is so good and so humble. I can’t imagine the ridicule she experienced and to accept it with great humility and surrender is inspiring. Werfel beautifully portrays the story of Lourdes.

How gorgeous and pure is this

This book is interesting to me because of what it concerns and because of who wrote it and the circumstances under which it came about, but the book itself is not well written. The characters are one dimensional and most of them just come across as a bit silly, to be honest. I like the character of Bernadette but she does come across as a sandwich short of a picnic.

Dense read but thorough for anyone wanting to know about the life of St. Bernadette

Almost at the end now. This book is gold.

Final visit. This is where things go swiftly downhill, the unhappiness arrives and Bernadette gradually becomes a Saint.

"Que soy l'Immaculada Concepciou."

Up to the exchange of rosaries. Lovely.

This is entirely observing. This book will eventually get my rare five-star rating on goodreads.

Delightful novelisation. I must say that the film, which I have seen before once or twice, follows the book quite faithfully. I assume that the film came after the book.

The visions continue as hysteria and doubt and belief flood the area. Local cleric is torn in what to believe.

They think Bernadette is crazy.

The first vision. Werfel is very gifted in his writings, in describing the first vision and the turmoil and human sorrow that surrounded Bernadette’s household. I have been to Lourdes one of the great experiences in my lifetime.
