I will have to reread the Common Cyborg one because she lost me there for a second and I do want to understand what she is talking about. Regardless, I am done with Part 1: Being!

I read four stories for part 1 today and it was interesting learning more about these people’s lives or their frustrations. There’s some things where I relate due to my experience with my health, but there are other things that I haven’t even considered such as how harmful a word can be on a medical form (in relations to Indigenous people being forced to select “Native American”). A great read so far

Just thinking about how difficult it is as a disabled person to seek joy, and yet somehow, myself and the disabled folks I know are able to find beauty and joy in the simplest of things. Sunlight, the smell of rain, a good laugh, feeling good enough for a walk. We know what we’re missing, so we don’t want to miss the little things we do see. Those moments just become so much more vibrant, they mean so much more.

Really loved Jen Deerinwater’s chapter on the erasure of chronically ill indigenous people
