Despite needing to look up stuff about mid 17thc politics and religious issues from time to time I absolutely love this book and can't put it down!! Great recommendation from Anna Palmer 🥰

Mr Blackborough was humouring him with "You are right, sir!" and "Very true, sir!" and it came to me that doubtless what my husband had meant, when he wrote of his need for a wife with fit and matchable conversation, was that I had never given him his "You are right, Husband!" and "Very true, Husband!" when he expatiated to me at tedious length on such subjects as these.

That was the most explicit account of a wedding night I've ever read. No detail was omitted.

If the second half is as good as the first, this is a seriously underrated novel.
