An extraordinary and moving story. Equal to the writing of Larry McMurtry without the effusion of blood found in Comanche Moon or Dead Man’s Walk. More in line with Lonesome Dove though this novel is not about a cattle drive, just Texas. Impressive character development and an intriguing plot rendered in a pithy, leathery, old west storytelling style.

This man won the Spur Award seven times, that award being a sort of Pulitzer for those who write western or frontier fiction and nonfiction. I’d like to see how he tells a story so I’m looking forward to this read 🐎
