Pretty good book. This is one of those expanded articles type things but they go into sufficient detail in later chapters, in fleshing out the core hypothesis, that it makes it worth it to continue reading.

So far so good. Talks about a "third way" of innovating that doesn't involve radical paradigm shifts through changing the core product/ competency nor a new way of doing business per se, but so far talks about creating a complementary service environment.

Compliment the core, create value (your promise), pain points eliminated.
Control. Like Apple for ipod, took control of earbud, chip, platform.
