I’d been raised by my Gen X Princess Di crazy mum to think of the queen mother as a snobby, racist lush. TBF, she probably was all those things. But if some of the revelations in this book are factual (no spoilers) I may have a slightly better understanding of the late queen mother and, dare I say, a teeny tiny smidgeon of empathy

This is written more in the style of a YA novel. I also wonder whether this book was published to create controversy!

Disappointing so far. Many well known facts are incorrect.

I think I’ve invested as much of my time in this book as I want to… it’s fine, just not what I’m in the mood for at the moment. But I’ll want to add that the ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ posters referenced in this book were never actually used at the time because the feedback was that people found them patronizing.

This.... is so boring. This woman is so boring. She just talks about how much she doesn't want Phillip to marry Elizabeth or how much David betrayed her because he married the American or about how "fat" she is. Like god damn it, woman! Shut up

Not going to be able to get through this book. It is written in a way that seems off to me.

Wow, the prologue is in bad taste when it discusses how long Princess Diana has been gone and bow Charles should have married Camilla in the first place. Really hope the book improves. Not sure who wrote it be wise I skipped through it at that point.

I enjoyed this book.

There's something about reading this after {while} spending so much time in the Royal Spyness realm in the years preceding this story ...

I've accidentally ended up with multiple historicals, set in England, in a relatively close chronology ... thankfully they're different enough I should be fine, but oopsie. I'll need to add some contemp or fantasy soon!
Also: why does first person work sometimes and at others feel awkward?

It’s hard to imagine Elizabeth (Lilibet) pining for Philip. But Lilibet was a teenager once. 😁
