Well I'm enjoying this. But I suspect it has problems in re: specific juvenile audience. We've got 92 year old Alice and her elderly female friends in Whitby, and foster kids Jennet (11ish?) and her I-Can-See-Dead-People (and The Fisher Folk) brother Ben (8). Baddie is a witchy woman in her 50s, and there's a lot of spinster and widowy lifestyle content (a former husband's old diary; goofy cat lady; seances, etc.).

I just wanna hop on the train to Whitby tomorrow instead of going to work. Best set-in-Whitby story I've read so far. Enjoying the pacing as well.

Didn't realise this book was originally from the 90s when I got it, got really thrown by the causal use of the r-slur
