Although this is a history book and there is very little in the archives relating specifically to the 107/9 villagers captured, its impressive tge way the author reconstructs likely events by sharing facts pertaining yo others who went through a similar experience. It's an alternative to writing fiction, as Sally Magnusson did in The Sealwoman's Gift, of the capture of 500 Icelandic villagers by the same pirate.

In June 1631, pirates stormed a village in West Cork and kidnapped over 100 villagers, taking them across the ocean to Algiers.
After reading of the raid, we are then introduced to the characters behind it and the possible reasons for such an audacious heist.
