The treatment of postpartum mothers during this time is horrendous. They badgered them into giving up all rights to their babies and sent them back to the homes that condemned them for not knowing basic sex education when it was not taught. The poor babies that were experimented on and had severe developmental delays growing up to not know what happened, therefore turning to drugs and dying. Oh my word!

I'm sure I'll say this when I finish the book, but the experiments on these babies is atrocious. What we know now of child development damns the inhumane handling. The horror of it is amplified by the fact that the Jewish "scientists" should have known better in a post-Holocaust world where their own families were affected. There's little difference between the experiments and Mengele in my opinion, aside from death.

Well it's already fucking depressing. But fascinating, touching not only on the experiences of the main characters, but also on the social/political climate at the time that helped fuel the horrible system.
