Hogg noted, even at Oxford, that he had never known anyone in whom the principle of veneration was so strong.

"Shelley appeared to be completely abstracted, one with the golden light that filled the river and the sky. Returning to himself ̶ or from himself ̶ he remarked, 'What a glorious world! There is, after all, something worth living for. This makes me retract the wish that I had never been born.'"

This book is filling me with tenderness and grief. It's no good.

"In 1823 a Geneva boatman gave his views on Shelley. He remembered him stretched on the bottom of the boat 'gazing at Heaven, where he would never enter'".

Loving this book so much. I love how the author divided this almost into themes that touched on Shelley's life. I am reading through the "watery" section of the book right now and it really is capturing the ethereal sublimity the is Shelley.

Score! I am enjoying this book so much I went ahead and ordered me a gently used copy for a steal. I knew I would have trouble taking this back to the library so now I can enjoy it worry free. My first Shelley biography and already this books seems hard to beat!

I've read a book by this author before, and I wasn't in love with it, but this, THIS, is an entirely different animal! I really love the way she has structured this book by not sticking to a certain timeline, and doing some bouncing around, it adds to the poetry and mystic sense of it all.

Mi vergogno di me stesso per la fiducia con cui rinnovo la mia affezione a una persona che conosco solo via lettere, resoconti, speculazioni - quindi, a conti fatti, per me inesistente.
