IDK why I am using goodreads as my platform this morning to talk about my thoughts on this book - wish I was in a classroom discussion to talk about all of this. someone else read these two books so we can talk about it that is all/4

Furthermore, how can we say a nation is at "peace" while maintaining military bases around the globe, while investing the peoples' taxes in military technology rather than critical infrastructure, while engaging in arms transfers, while teaching children that they are not born safe, while whitewashing history and liberation struggles, while creating a culture of complicity in this militarization /3

I really love her argument about the difference between "peace" and "conflict." When do we consider a nation to be living in peace? I think her arguments show that "peace" is not simply two countries not being at war with each other. While that nation is oppressing people within the society, while bodies are made the grounds of militarization, healthcare is restricted - this is not peace /2

Loving reading this book in conjunction with Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center.
Enloe has really thought-provoking questions and ideas, though I find myself frustrated at the lack of recognition of intersectionality in the analysis. I do not understand why at the beginning of this book she goes into such depth to talk about why issues of gender are more critical than issues of class/capitalism - why not both? /1
