Today I Learnt: Geillis Duncan was a real person and not just a fictional character. She was one of the first women to be accused of witchcraft in Scotland during the reign of James VI. I can see where Diana Gabaldon got her inspiration!

Today I Learnt: In the 17th century, it was believed that women could only conceive if they'd given consent. Therefore, if women got pregnant from rape, it was thought that they must have consented.
However, my edition of the book is so poorly edited - paragraphs indented where they shouldn't be so they get mixed up with quotes, spelling mistakes... This book may be hard to finish for a pedant like me!
