I wasn’t expecting the chapter where the poet is almost hung by thieves and vagabonds to be the best part of the book (so far). I laughed / snorted far more often than I thought I would— the repeated indignant, “you shall be hung” over and over again to every point the poet made was an ingenious work of comedy. Also, Esmeralda marries the poet??? I did not see that coming:
