This continues to be clumsy, including some more dialogue and actions that sound more like an alien trying to pass as human than actual human actions.

It's encouraging I don't seem to have missed anything by skipping the second book entirely - two chapters in and the characters have all gone over exactly what happened of importance in the second book and there has been no tangible character development I feel I've missed.
