I let a lot slide because I know the author is older and Welsh but the way she speaks of immigrants is pissing me tf off. Gots to see it through my boy

There have been quite a few comments about people not appreciating the world around them or not having to go through what she did. I don’t mind the memoir aspects of this book, but I don’t think that the author’s commentary on people she deems “less than” is necessary.

I try not to fault people for some of their less harmful world views, but the author continues to shit on people who just don’t see things the way that she does or don’t use what she does—For example, talking shit about folks who use mind altering substances while talking about drinking wine. Like ma’am, come on.

Did nobody edit this. Why does a book about pollen have so much "kids these days with their electronics don't have to walk up hills or have adventures"

In order to get more reading in, most of the time I like getting the audiobook version. This is a fascinating book and it is read by the author. Unfortunately, it is read by the author. I love her accent, but her overall narration comes off super soft-spoken, flat, and dry. I struggle to hear her as she slowly whispers the words. I have to listen in a faster and louder setting which is annoying.

Love this so far. Very technical and I love that about this book. Give me all the biology details. 😍

Patricia is just shy of being a boomer (1942) but I think she deserves honorary millennial status for the amount of times she reinvented herself across her career: renal sample analyst, exec secretary, biology professor, archaeologist, forensic palynologist. This last one she invented because it didn't exist when she started.

I stopped a little over halfway. There was inappropriate language used for describing a little person. Disappointed that an educated person in 2019 would use that term.
