Stage 2 is Jupiter. Its symbol is almost a flip of Saturn. It makes sense due to the myth. By adding water to the ash, it purified and cleansed and then lifted out of the ground (that makes sense based on the Alice webinar). Jupiter is the king of all gods and kings (pointing to Christ’s washing of us). Moreover, it is freed from darkness. Jupiter conquered Saturn, therefore it symbolizes conquering death. POOF!

WOW! Burkhardt aligns stages with planets from 1 to 7: Saturn, Jupiter, Moon, Venus, Mars, Sun, and ? That makes sense. Stage 1 happens in the darkness like a grave or a seed being buried in the ground. It makes sense due to the duality of Saturn. But, Saturn also devours its own children which is what happened to Shasta. His life was threatened as an infant and his foster father sucks the life out of him.

After that is everyone else. In short, ti’s the great chain of being. Corin spots Shasta and he introduces the boy as his double. Everyone can see that they are two peas in a pod. Then Corin pulls him away and they chat. Corin wants to go to battle but King Edmund forbids it. Try stopping a force of nature. Corin fights the dwarf who tries, and the latter sprains his ankle, incurring the wrath of Edmund.

They even offer cream and porridge. Three dwarf brothers live in the home. Shasta falls asleep and they give him a bed of heather. He slept until supper and, after supper, slept some more. The next morning, after breakfast, they hear trumpets announcing the Narnians. Lord Perdian leads with the flag (red lion on a green background). Then come ralys and others of high rank.

Shast is suffereing from hunger physically (belly) and the dwarf finds out how long it’s been since he has had a meal. He offers to take him home and feed him. Shasta doesn’t even have to think about stealing. He was so weak the dwarf had to help him walk to his home. What a delicious meal. The belly must have been pleased: bacon, eggs, mushrooms, milk, butter, toast, coffee. The home is pleasant unlike his old home.

They head downhill (descent). He meets a sleepy hedgehog and tells him about the large Calormen army heading their way. The creature doens’t think straight. Shasta suggests alerging the High King but the hedgehog is clueless. Other critters arrive but the golden age of Narnia has made them less fearful. A dwarf and stag arrive and they have a sense of urgency. The stag immediately takes off to Cair Paravel.

Ch. 12 It’s very medieval of Shasta to wonder if his meeting with Aslan was a dream. Then he sees an enourmous lion pawprint and water has filled it. He washes himself and drinks--it’s baptism, symbolically. He looks back to where he had walked the night before. He can see that Aslan protected him from falling off the edge. He no longer believes in luck. He watches the horse eat grass but he has nothing.
