If you love realistically written historical fiction, you are going to love this book.

One of the things that impressed me about this book was the character and world development. We get to know several characters in both Cortés army and that of Motecuhzoma's. The two men are more similar than different. Rickford manages to create suspense even though the story is familiar.

I had to get my classes set up for the new semester. I'm back reading this book again.

One of the things I like about this book is that there are lots of side characters with lots of different points of view about why Cortéz and the Spanish have undertaken this expedition.

Heading into chapter 6 and enjoying what I'm reading. Historical fiction is a bit outside of mysteries, but what drives me to finish is understanding the relationship between the two civilizations. We are getting into that in the next chapter, so we shall see.

This books is well written. It has characters with lots of different points of view, but ultimately it's about Cortéz mission to the Americas, and we all know that doesn't end well for the Native people, so it's a little hard to read in large chunks. It does give a close-up look at what happened in the 1500s, though and I think it's good to get a new perspective on history.

This book is about a part of history that I have only a sketchy knowledge of. I know it ends badly for the Native people of Mexico and South America. That's sad.

Fascinating!
Such a refreshing look on the events and people too many scholars and novelists tried to deal with.
Love the author's depiction of Malinche. So very original and frankly more plausible than other versions of this controversial figure I happened to see in fiction and non-fiction alike.

Difficult to put down. Well-written, fascinating, and full of wonderfully diverse points of view!
