The Fourth Agreement: “Always do your best.”

Nothing in life will be difficult if you’re just doing your best. You can find joy in every avenue of your day if you simply try as best as you can. There’s no room for regret if you look back on something and think, “Hey, it wasn’t great. But I did my best.”

Your best will improve and deplete, but it’ll always be worth more than half-measures.

“There is no time to miss anyone or anything because you are alive.”

The Third Agreement: “Don’t make assumptions.”

Another close-to-home agreement. Assumptions ruin your perception of the world, particularly within those you love. We have self-created barriers that prevent us from seeing reality, causing us to spiral if something is not explicitly clear.

That girl is not sneaking around. That friend is not being toxic. You are fabricating evidence and believing it as truth.

“Making assumptions in our relationships is really asking for problems.”

“We have the need to justify everything, to explain and understand everything, in order to feel safe.”

The Second Agreement: “Don’t take anything personally.”

There’s no need to let the things you see, hear, or even think create limitations and binding agreements within yourself. It does not matter if someone gossips about you, if that person ghosts you, if that stranger bumps into you. From small to large actions, these are reflections of their souls — not yours.

Let words bounce off of you. Love living.
