"I usually say that the first poem I ever wrote was "After a Shower of Rain." I wrote it in the aftermath of one of those sudden downpours that come to quench the Jamaican landscape in the month of August. It is the kind of rain that cleans the air and the trees and leaves behind the most pleasing of all scenes, "eau de rain on dry earth."
