“But the very notion that magic is wrong, or something to be ashamed of, is the greatest misconception of our time.”

Every time I reread this book I see new connections to present real-world. It was entertainment when I was 10. Now it’s so much more to me and a comfort trilogy when I’m feeling lonely or hopeless with my identity and the current state of the world. Religion, sexual identity, broken family, and patriarchy themes perfectly hidden in a story of fairies and magic.

“Humankind has always needed something to hate and fear to unite them. After all, if they had nothing to conquer and triumph over, they’d have nothing to fuel their sense of superiority. And some men would destroy the world for an ounce of self-worth.”
