Finally, that pathetic douchenozzle of a "frater" has pissed off. I hope he gets lost in the wilderness.

I really like that religion plays such a large role in the story - I've seen some reviewers complains about it, but the author says in the foreword that she was inspired by Medieval history, and that's how it was. The book doesn't preach, but it portrays the church as a powerful institution on par with the kings and queens and the religious teachings as an integral part of the people's mentality and daily life.

Wait, so the half-elf prince that appeared in the prologue is Sanglant? I legally thought that Alain would turn out to be a bastard prince brought away from the court for some reason. Anyway, while Alain's chapters are not so tense as Liath's, they provide an insight into the tangled politics of the kingdoms of Wendar and Varre, and Alain is such an honest and kind-hearted character.

it was quite a long time since I hated any villain as much as I hate Hugh, even if he isn't a deranged murderer, bloody tyrant or crazy god. Instead, he is manipulative, lying, hypocritical abuser who pushes Liath to the brink of despair and suffering and almost kills her and then comforts her and plays a good guy to better control her. Monsters and demons are fantastic creatures, but we can meet Hughs in real life.

Yes, that's exactly what I've been waiting for! Alain's plot with the black dogs is very promising. Where these dogs came from and do they obey Alain only due to his alleged elf blood? And how is Count of Lavas connected to the Lady of Battles? Will Eika try to attack and rescue their captured chieftain? I was rather amused by how chill the count was about the whole situation with his dogs obeying a simple stableboy?
